With around 2.4 lakh CRL rank in JEE Main and being OBC-NCL male from Chhattisgarh, you are realistically in the range where:

  • Top NITs / good IIIT CSE are not possible through normal JoSAA rounds.
  • But you still have chances in:
  • lower branches in some GFTIs
  • a few North-East NITs
  • some newer/lower IIITs in CSAB special rounds
  • state counselling in Chhattisgarh
  • decent private colleges through JEE score.

Also important: in JoSAA, for OBC seats the cutoff is based on OBC category rank, not CRL.

What you can realistically get

1. Through JoSAA Counselling (realistic)

At 2.4 lakh CRL, expect mainly:

Possible NIT options (mostly core/lower branches)

  • North-East NITs:
  • NIT Mizoram
  • NIT Nagaland
  • NIT Arunachal Pradesh
  • NIT Sikkim
  • NIT Meghalaya

Branches you may get:

  • Civil
  • Mechanical
  • Metallurgy
  • Production
  • Biotechnology
  • Chemical (some cases)

Mostly in later JoSAA rounds or CSAB.

Possible IIITs (very limited, mostly CSAB)

Some lower/new IIITs may close very high in CSAB special rounds:

  • IIIT Bhagalpur
  • IIIT Manipur
  • IIIT Kalyani

But likely only:

  • ECE
  • Smart Manufacturing
  • lower-demand specializations

Not guaranteed.

Reddit discussions from recent counselling cycles also show many students around similar ranges depending heavily on CSAB vacancy movement.

GFTIs — your best central counselling chance

You have better chances in:

  • Assam University
  • Gurukula Kangri Vishwavidyalaya
  • Birla Institute of Technology Mesra (less likely main campus, maybe extension campuses)
  • Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology

Branches:

  • Civil
  • Electrical
  • Mechanical
  • Food Tech
  • Production
  • Metallurgy

2. Through CSAB Special Rounds — VERY IMPORTANT FOR YOU

You should definitely sit in CSAB after JoSAA.

Many seats remain vacant in:

  • North-East NITs
  • GFTIs
  • lower-demand branches
  • newer IIITs

Cutoffs move significantly in CSAB. Students with much higher ranks often get seats there compared to JoSAA regular rounds.

For your rank, CSAB is more important than JoSAA.

3. Chhattisgarh State Counselling (CGDTE) — strongest option

Since you are from Chhattisgarh, this is where you may get comparatively better colleges.

Possible colleges:

  • Government Engineering College Raipur
  • Chhattisgarh Swami Vivekanand Technical University affiliated colleges
  • Shri Shankaracharya Technical Campus
  • Rungta College of Engineering and Technology

You may get:

  • CSE in lower private colleges
  • IT
  • AI/DS
  • ECE
  • Mechanical

depending on counselling round.

4. Private colleges accepting JEE Main

At your rank you can still target:

  • KIIT
  • SRM Institute of Science and Technology
  • Chandigarh University
  • UPES

Some offer scholarships based on JEE.

What I would recommend practically

Best strategy for you:

  1. Fill JoSAA completely
  2. Definitely participate in CSAB
  3. Prioritize:
  • NIT tag over branch only if fees/location acceptable
  • otherwise take CSE/IT in decent state/private college
  1. Do not leave counselling because many seats move late.

Reality check

At 2.4 lakh CRL:

  • Top NIT/IIIT CSE is not realistic.
  • But a government engineering seat is still possible.
  • If your priority is placements/software career, then:
  • decent local CSE college + coding skills
  • can be better than low-demand branch in remote NIT.
